What Feed Keeps Hogs Away From Feeders
I have some trough feeders and want to start putting some protein feed in them. However, I also have a problem with hogs and dont want to feed them. I thought about building a low fence around them but have not decided on what to do. Any suggestions? Thanks.
Shoot everyone and fence in the feeders. The deer will jump in there and the hogs will try and tear it down.

went through the same thing. take regular fence wire, bend it so thats it 3' high and 1' out on the bottomwrap around 3 tree and nail. also i put a few metal t-post up ( buy the 10' and cut them in half. i put this up and my camera and the deer started jumping in that night and havent slowed up. going to put up another this weekend any problems and i think i have some pics.

Thanks for the info guys! Did you put your fence up when you put your feeder there or did you wait for the deer to start using it? Also how big around is your fence? I want to make sure I make it big enough.
Thanks
Raise Trough
I don't know how your feeder is made , but you might consider raising it to 36 " before you build a fence. Might be an easier way to keep hogs out --worked for me. Feeder needs to be sturdy and fastened down or hogs will knock it around and maybe turn it over. A 300 lb hog is plenty strong.
camera and log times. Then call a woody's member with dog after deer season and prepare for BBQ.
ditto on bbq! hogs will find away around fencing, your just putting of the inevitable.

my pen had 3 sides around 30 feet each ,i just poured corn on the ground. btw i tried 4 different feeder with dif heights and all i got were pics of hogs standing on there hind legs eating out of my feeder.
I might would try a hanging trough feeder, then when the hogs try to stand on it and put there front legs on it it will swing out from under them.
I have never had any problems associated with fencing one in except building it and routine maintenance

We have already brought the dogs in and started catching them. Problem is my place is bordered by a river and a state park so the hogs come and go as they please. They are a tough animal to control. I think im gonna put a fence around the feeders I already have but the idea of a hanging feeder is also something to look into. I still think the hogs would run into it and knock alot of feed off. Anyone got pics of a hangin trough feeder? Thanks for the help guys!!

I would make it out of a 55 gallon barrel cut it in half length ways and held up with cables or chains. I would also try to make a roof over it so the corn wont get too wet, or cut some holes in the bottom covered with hardware cloth for the water to drain.

Take 36" hog panel fencing and 5' t posts drive a t-post every 48" deer will jumpit and this will keep the hogs out. if need be, cut the top horizontal wire off leaving the vertical, these sharp vertical pieces will injure a hog if it tries to go over the fence.
Ditto on the hog wire. Also hang up a spincast feeder somewhere away from the trough feeder. It will give the doggers somewhere to start from.
I just got into a Hunting Club today and thanks for all the good advice.....I'm going to try some of these suggestions on our property this year....Great advice goes along way.....Great Thread friend....
i just closed in a trough today. check out my thread on it. we used 7 cattle pannels to do it. now i just hope the deer will find it again and use it regular

The panels look good, but I would have bent up the bottom 2 feet of them and put it towards the outside. the hogs will try and root under the panels to get to the corn.

i dont think they will bother it too much. they have other available food souces not too far away. if they become a problem i will just start back trapping them. i have a trap in a road very close to this trough.

Corn in the wintertime; The hogs will be all over it. You should put the trap next to the panels. They will be looking for the easiest way to eat a free meal and the trap will provide it to them.

the wont get it--they can hang out on the outside and watch. like i sid there is plenty of " other food" close by and they hit it pretty wel along with the trap, but we have quit pouring corn my it to try and detour them to our other places.
